ULTEM™ SU3102P Oligomer Empowers Scalability of Stronger, Tougher Lightweight Aerospace Composites
SABIC’s ULTEM™ SU3102P oligomer supports the rapid development of a new generation of aerospace structures that are lighter, more durable and help reduce carbon emissions.
ULTEM SU3102P oligomer (rPEI) is a low molecular weight reactive oligomer based on polyetherimide (PEI) functionalized with amine groups. It has the potential to be used as a high-temperature toughening agent in epoxy, cyanate ester, benzoxazine, bismaleimide, phenolic, phenoxy, and urethane thermosets for use in composites, electronics, coatings, adhesives, and additive manufacturing applications.

This amorphous powder has very good solubility in thermosetting resins, and common organic solvents. Like SABIC’s ULTEM 1010 resin, an incorporation of reactive ULTEM SU310P oligomer may provide improved toughness-stiffness balance, high heat, lower moisture absorption, and excellent FST performance. Furthermore, due to its low molecular weight, reactive groups and fine powder form, it may also provide improved processability (solubility, viscosity, compatibility). That may further provide improved interfacial adhesion with the resin matrix and better chemical resistance.
